Wakefield gym reviews

Rated 3 out of 5 by from The staff presence wasn’t felt I’ve just visited the gym for the first time since lockdown. As a shielder, this was a big step for me. I think you’ve done a great job of creating safe space for people to exercise safely However I think there is huge room for improvement with cleaning equipment. When I read your email telling me what you were doing to make it safe, I expected to feel much more of a staff presence overseeing and ensuring the equipment was kept clean and people were adhering to the safety measures, but I didn’t feel that. I watched people using equipment and not wiping it down afterwards which I appreciate is down to the individual but I think you should have a much more heavy handed approach to this. I would also suggest more cleaning stations or a bottle of spray and blue roll on the unused treadmills, this on it’s own would encourage people to clean down. I did feel safe and I stayed in my own lane and did as much as I could to ensure I was safe and the people that used the equipment after me would have nothing to worry about.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Lots of space, very clean First trip back since lockdown, lots of hand sanitiser, very clean, lots of space to socially distance from other members. Good layout of equipment to give everyone space. Music has been lowered, which is strange but good as helps people not shout etc

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I felt safe at Wakefield gym today. Everyone in the gym adhered to social distancing and was wiping their equipment down this morning. Very respectful of each other.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Really good!! I was apprehensive before returning back to the gym but this was my first time this morning and I was so happy at all the things that have been put into place - the cleaning that the guys were doing was excellent!! I was more than happy to wipe down my equipment too. I even went to the manager after to tell him how happy I was with the work his team were doing!

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Time wasters Since returning to the gym I have felt satisfied with the cleaning standards etc, however I am not satisfied with the amount of messing around and faffing from other members. I understand in peak time that it is busier and equipment may to longer to become free which is fine. However it is more than frustrating watching people sat on a piece of equipment on their phone for 5-10 minutes at a time, and also seeing people put their bottles in equipment and stand talking to their friends. I get there isn’t full control over this BUT when personal trainers are walking past smiling and getting involved in this it’s extremely annoying.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Opening times My partner and I were very pleased to hear that pure gym was able to reopen since lockdown, as active members of your gym we were looking forward to training again. However as NHS frontline workers we work all different shifts and what attracted us to pure gym was it’s 24 hour availability. Although we understand the reasons for not being able to open for 24 hours, we don’t understand why we should pay our usual monthly membership fee when we still aren’t able to access the gym through no fault of our own.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from A good gym but encountered a very bad apple I am going to do my best to be constructive and objective based on my first day and overall experience. I had a quick 35 minute workout. I used to be with another gym which has now closed down. :::The very Good::: Before I joined PureGym Wakefield, I came in yesterday for a tour. I met with Luke who was absolutely fantastic. I will give him the full 5stars. He was courteous and friendly. He listened carefully and showed me around with no pressure to join. The gym looks and feels clean. It also looks modern and there are sufficient equipments for what I need to do. They have used the space well so it did not feel overcrowded. I still wish it was a bit bigger. You get two hours free parking at the shopping centre and you can validate your ticket inside the gym. The phone app enables you to check the numbers in the gym before you decide to pop in. All these above should deserve 5 stars. ::::BUT the ‘Not so good’:::: However an encounter on my first workout day with a staff called Magan Gowda was the total opposite of the qualities I described in Luke. Magan lacked customer services skills and courtesy. I don’t believe my comments are subjective. I have 10 years experience managing teams and over 14 years looking after various customers up to board room level as part of a support team. So that is over 24 years experience looking after various customers and clients. Magan refused to offer assistance that would have taken him no more than 10 seconds. When I arrived at the gym for my workout, I had some issues accessing the gym with the scanner. At the same time, another gentleman who may have been there to do some work buzzed for assistance. Magan came to the door and let the man in. I asked for Magan's help but he completely ignored me. He looked at me and just continued to walk away. So I called out loudly giving him the benefit of the doubt he did not hear me... I was saying that I needed help getting in but he just blanked me. Even the worker he let in also told Magan that I am asking him for help but Magan just looked at me again and walked away. The arrogance was beyond me. I wasn’t rude or forward, I just needed help accessing the gym in a safe way. We were no more than 3 metres apart. So he saw and heard me well. A gym member who saw this, assisted me when he was leaving and I got into the gym successfully using the scanner. When I got into the gym, I decided to politely confront Magan when he was alone to understand why he did what he did. He was not apologetic. His response was that he was assisting someone and he was ‘doing documents’. How does a task called ‘doing documents’ prevent you offering help or calling a colleague to help if you are busy? He then asked for my name and asked whether I was there for a tour. He excused himself quickly saying that he was busy with someone else. For a first workout, this was zero stars and very appalling service. One word that describes his attitude is ‘cocky’ but not in a positive way. I almost cancelled my membership but I said, why should I let a poor character determine my personal wellbeing.
